Cheer, Hope, Generosity!!

Come to the OEA Toy Drive Social
Refreshments, Prizes, Camaraderie
Friday, December 12
4:00pm--7:00pm
OEA Center
272 East 12th Street, Oakland
Help brighten the season for others-
Please bring a toy--new, unwrapped--for an Oakland child.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear OEA Reps and Alternates,
I am counting on you to have your staff commit to support the OEA Toy Drive and the Project for Unaccompanied Minors.
How you can make it happen:
1. Have your principal add you to the end of the agenda for your Faculty Meeting. (That is a contractual right.)
2. Print out theflyer for the Toy/Gift Card Driveand bring it to your meeting.
3. On the back of the flyer have staff write their names and what they will give you by Friday, December 12(toy or money or gift card).
4. If you cannot bring the items on Friday or Monday 12/15, ask around for someone who can.
5. Remind those who made a commitment at Wednesday PD meeting.
6. Come and enjoy a TGIF with your colleagues on December 12!

Another announcement to make to your staff:
ALCOSTA Service Center is holding an email election for Minority-at-Large Delegate to CTA State Council. Please remind them that the email from ALCOSTA is a ballot and they should vote. Biographical statements are included. Some have gone into Spam boxes.

This is another chance to remind them to update their contact information. Direction were written on the back of the Toy Drive flyer handed out at Rep Council.

I know this is a lot to ask. I hope the directions have made it less onerous. Thank you for all that you do for the children of Oakland and the adults who support them.

In Unity,

Trish Gorham

November 11, 2104 and November 12, 2014 - Support Kaiser Nurses' Strike

Kaiser Walkout for Improved Patient Care Kicks Off Day of Action for Ebola, Patient Safety Standards in 16 States, DC

With strikes and other protest actions fast approaching, talks between registered nurses and one of the nation’s biggest hospital and insurance chains Kaiser Permanente stalled Thursday setting the stage for a strike by 18,000 Kaiser RNs Tuesday November 11 kicking off a historic international day of actions on Wednesday, November 12.

National Nurses United and its affiliate members, including the California Nurses Association are sponsoring the U.S. actions from California to Maine, joined by several affiliates of Global Nurses United.

“The failure to properly meet the optimal safety protections for Ebola, speaks volumes to the erosion of patient care standards in the U.S. generally,” said RoseAnn DeMoro, executive director of both NNU and CNA.

January 6, 2014 - Site Meetings

Please take the time to review your Bargaining Team's Sunshine Proposal. Discuss with your colleagues and OEA Rep. Discussion of the Sunshine will be a major part of Rep Council on January 6.

Please email members at your school site this weekend to let them know that there will be a site meeting Monday after school. Remember, principals may not schedule any meetings after school on the first working Monday of the month (OUSD-OEA Agreement Article 6.1.12). Below please find a sample flyer that you can cut & paste and put in members' boxes Monday morning. If you would like a copy in Word email me. A Constant Contact email went out to all OEA members on December 24 with links to the OEA Sunshine Proposal so it is available for members to read and discuss.

In addition, please make sure members at your school site are aware of the next OEA mobilization. We must show our strength when the OEA officially unveils our sunshine agreement at the January 29 OUSD School Board Meeting at La Escualita. OEA members need to commit to being there for one hour (5:30-6:30) so we can demonstrate to OUSD board members and staff that we are united in our determination to win the contract that we--and our students--deserve.

Please attend Monday's Rep Council Meeting at Bret Harte Middle School (3700 Coolidge Ave) where we will discuss and vote on the OEA sunshine. The meeting will be held in the auditorium. Park on the blacktop and walk uphill to the stairs at the top of the blacktop to the upper patio. Once you walk upstairs, the Bret Harte auditorium will be on your left.
Thank you for all you do as OEA Site Reps,
Steve Neat, 1st Vice President,
Oakland Education Association
