----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear OEA Reps and Alternates,
I am counting on you to have your staff commit to support the OEA Toy Drive and the Project for Unaccompanied Minors.
How you can make it happen:
1. Have your principal add you to the end of the agenda for your Faculty Meeting. (That is a contractual right.)
2. Print out theflyer for the Toy/Gift Card Driveand bring it to your meeting.
3. On the back of the flyer have staff write their names and what they will give you by Friday, December 12(toy or money or gift card).
4. If you cannot bring the items on Friday or Monday 12/15, ask around for someone who can.
5. Remind those who made a commitment at Wednesday PD meeting.
6. Come and enjoy a TGIF with your colleagues on December 12!

Another announcement to make to your staff:
ALCOSTA Service Center is holding an email election for Minority-at-Large Delegate to CTA State Council. Please remind them that the email from ALCOSTA is a ballot and they should vote. Biographical statements are included. Some have gone into Spam boxes.

This is another chance to remind them to update their contact information. Direction were written on the back of the Toy Drive flyer handed out at Rep Council.

I know this is a lot to ask. I hope the directions have made it less onerous. Thank you for all that you do for the children of Oakland and the adults who support them.

In Unity,

Trish Gorham

Kaiser Walkout for Improved Patient Care Kicks Off Day of Action for Ebola, Patient Safety Standards in 16 States, DC

With strikes and other protest actions fast approaching, talks between registered nurses and one of the nation’s biggest hospital and insurance chains Kaiser Permanente stalled Thursday setting the stage for a strike by 18,000 Kaiser RNs Tuesday November 11 kicking off a historic international day of actions on Wednesday, November 12.

National Nurses United and its affiliate members, including the California Nurses Association are sponsoring the U.S. actions from California to Maine, joined by several affiliates of Global Nurses United.

“The failure to properly meet the optimal safety protections for Ebola, speaks volumes to the erosion of patient care standards in the U.S. generally,” said RoseAnn DeMoro, executive director of both NNU and CNA.
