NAACP EDUCATORS' FORUM

ACTION ALERTS FOR SATURDAY, OCT. 20!

NAACP EDUCATORS' FORUM
Saturday, October 20, 10 am - 12 pm

Elmhurst United Methodist Church

1659 83rd Avenue (Corner of 83rd & Plymouth)

The NAACP is hosting a meeting with Oakland teachers.

We'll enjoy light refreshments and discuss issues facing our African American youth. This conversation is even more important as we look at the District's multi-year commitment to the Department of Education's Voluntary Resolution on discipline and suspension rates of African American males in Oakland schools. How do we balance the issues of equity, safety, discipline, and learning time? What training is required and what systems need to be in place? What are our recommendations to Superintendent Smith?

Please join OEA President, Trish Gorham, at this event.

Teachers Support Mi Pueblo Workers and their Families

Teachers Support Mi Pueblo Workers and their Families

Saturday, October 20th 1-4 pm
1630 High St. Oakland

An immigration audit has placed undocumented workers at Mi Pueblo markets at serious risk of losing their jobs. A number of OUSD students have family members who work at Mi Pueblo and thus are at risk of losing their economic livelihood.

Join the teachers across the district organizing a contingent of educators to show the community that we have their back.

We will send you more information about the rally, a sample email you can use to bring this issue to the attention of your school community, and ideas for organizing students, teachers, and parents in defense of Mi Pueblo workers and undocumented communities in Oakland.
