OUT IN THE STREETS! This coming MONDAY, APRIL 4, is a National Day of Action organized by a coalition that includes NEA, CTA, NAACP and the AFL-CIO. WE ARE ONE is a national call to stop the attack on the middle class. We stand with teachers and other public workers in Wisconsin and workers across the country in opposing cuts to education and social services, and demanding that corporations, banks, and the wealthy pay their fair share. Teachers have been a main target of this attack. We urge ALL Oakland teachers to participate in OEA's action of solidarity with early morning pickets at five major intersections of Oakland from 7am to 8 am!! Attend one close to your home or school. Notify your parents. · 51st & Broadway · MacArthur & 35th · Moraga & Thornhill · 98th & Bancroft · Market & 17th Wear OEA Green or Pink. Bring Signs! Posters with pictures of pink-slipped teachers are very effective. We will be forwarding an informational flier shortly for distribution at the street corners and at your site. Multiple copies will also be available for pick-up at the OEA Center Friday. Other activities to potentially engage in include: picketing at your site after or during school with your "pink-slipped" kids; attending the 11:45am rally at Oakland City Hall if your lunch hour is backed up against a prep period; attending a 6:00 pm rally at San Francisco City Hall (if not a rep!!**). Be creative. |
