Using Technology to Increase Student Engagement

This workshop will show you how to incorporate technology to increase student achievement,student engagement, and parent involvement. You will learn how to use free technology in your classes and see examples of students work. You will also learn how Prezi, Voice Thread, and Blogger are tools that give students 21st century skills to achieve in career and college. Bring your laptop, learn and have fun! (Laptops will also be available for use during the workshop)

This will be my tenth year teaching math. I've loved teaching at Oakland High School for the past seven years! This year I am a math teacher for the OHS Environmental Science Academy. Prior to teaching high school, I taught 6th, 7th, and 8th math grade for three years in East Oakland.
I have a BA in Pure Math from the University of California at Berkeley. While at Cal, I lead a statistics workshop for the athletic department's study center (Go Bears!). I was also an undergraduate assistant for the PDP Calculus 1A and 1B intensified sections. I worked with the Hands on Universe Program at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, and I obtained my teaching credential from California State University East Bay. Before teaching, I worked in finance at Barclays Global Investors in SF, CA (which has been acquired by Black Rock) and studied dance at the Ailey School in NY, NY. Currently I am the web designer/master for the Oakland Education Association.

Ann Kruze has been an educator for over 30 years, 20 in the classroom. Seven of those years
were teaching in overseas classrooms. She has an MA in Educational Technology. Oakland
Unified has provided her the opportunity to explore how technology can support and enhance
student learning and teacher practice. Outside of school, she has loved raising her two
incredible daughters and exploring this wonderful state. (See Ann featured in this article about educational technology)
